TEHRAN Adidas Ultra Boost 2.0 Pas Cher , Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Iran said Sunday it had blocked all flights to and from Iraq's Kurdistan at the request of Baghdad, one day ahead of Kurdistan's independence referendum, official news agency IRNA reported.

"At the request of the central government of Iraq, all flights from Iran to Sulaymaniyah and Erbil, as well as all flights through our airspace originating from the Kurdistan region, have been stopped," official news agency IRNA quoted the spokesman for the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Keivan Khosravi, as saying.

Since Iran's political activities did not result in conclusion due to the Kurdistan's insistence on referendum, the SNSC decided in its urgent meeting on Sunday morning to seal its borders to the Kurdish flights, Khosravi said.

"The hasty decision of the Kurdistan authorities has both limited their role in Iraq's political scene and has opened the security of Iraq, the region and the Kurds to serious challenges," he added.

On Sunday, Turkey also closed its airspace to Iraqi Kurdistan flights.

Iraq, Iran and Turkey have agreed on taking countermeasures if the semi-autonomous Kurdish region heads to hold an independence referendum in northern Iraq.

On June 7, the Kurdish President Masoud Barzani announced his intention to hold a referendum on the independence of the Kurdish region from Iraq on Sept. 25.

The independence of Kurds is opposed by many countries because it would threaten the integrity of Iraq and it comes as the Iraqi forces are in fight against the Islamic State group.

In addition, the neighboring countries of Turkey, Iran and Syria see that such a step would threaten their territorial integrity, as larger populations of Kurds live in those countries.

GAZA, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The United Nation is ready to supervise the Palestinian consensus government to perform in the Gaza Strip, Special UN coordinator for the Middle East peace process Nikolay Mladenov said Monday.

Mladenov told a news briefing that he proposed the plan to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in a meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah earlier this week.

Mladenov expressed willingness to send a UN delegation to Gaza to supervise the process of enabling the government of Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah to perform and takeover ministries.

He welcomed last week's Islamic Hamas movement's declaration of dissolving a controversial administrative committee the movement formed in Gaza to run populations daily affairs.

Forming the committee outraged Abbas, who then carried out a series of punitive measures against Gaza. He said the measures would only be lifted on condition that Hamas dissolve the committee.

Mladenov also appreciated Egypt's role in the reconciliation, adding that "enabling the government to perform in Gaza is an important step to lift the blockade."

Israel imposed a tight blockade on the Gaza Strip in 2007 and considered the coastal enclave a hostile entity right after Hamas militias violently seized control of the territory and routed Abbas security forces.

Mladenov announced that he will brief the leaders of the international community on all the practical developments on the ground after the consensus government starts acting.

The UN official highlighted the importance "in this crucial moment to get benefits out of Cairo reconciliation understandings," adding that all parties should take the opportunity to fix the 10-year internal division, which "damaged the Palestinian cause."

He also said it would "take time" to resolve the humanitarian crisis that Gaza has been passing through, referring mainly to the issue of the severe shortage of electricity.

Palestinian consensus government spokesman Yousef Al-Mahmoud declared earlier on Monday that the government will hold weekly cabinet meeting in Gaza city next Tuesday first time in two years.

The Palestinian PM said in a post on his Facebook page that he will "head to the beloved Gaza Strip next Monday, heading the government and alongside all commissions, authorities and security bodies."

In Gaza, Hamas spokesman Abdulatif al-Qanou' said in an emailed press statement that his movement welcomes Hamdallah's decision to come to Gaza, hold his weekly cabinet meeting and handover the various ministries.

"Hamas wishes success to the consensus government in all its missions, duties and responsibilities, and hopes that the government will withdraw all the punitive measures which had been taken against Gaza and its people," he said.
